Santa Fe Improv is dedicated to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

A FOUNDATION - The determination to serve the community as a whole has been part of the vision of Santa Fe Improv since February of 2019, when we applied for, and subsequently received, nonprofit status. Since then we have developed programming beyond that of classes for the general adult population, serving the LGBTQIA+ community through classes and prospective workshops, developing a policy on Gender Inclusivity & Physical Boundaries and serving area youth. Our classes are age-diverse and culturally diverse. We are proud to have a diverse faculty and staff. This is a strong foundation.

Now it is time to take the next step in recognizing diversity as an imperative.

DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

The Diversity Scholarship is established as an ongoing message of solidarity with the Black Lives Matters movement and all those who have suffered from inequality and/or injustice based on the color of their skin. In recognition of the diverse demographics of New Mexico, this scholarship will be open to New Mexicans who identify as Black, Indigenous or people of color (BIPOC), and who demonstrate need.

One scholarship will be offered to a person of color, 18 years of age or older, for participation in each SFI Improv Fundamentals class. In the event the scholarship is not utilized for this purpose, it will be opened up to anyone marginalized by identity, financial means, or neurodiversity.

If the scholarship recipient matriculates, the scholarship will follow them through the first 3 levels of courses. If they do not matriculate or are able to pay for classes, the scholarship will be released to the next Fundamentals class. The scholarship does not apply to advanced seminars, electives or special courses.

Applications may be made via a letter, email or phone interview, explaining why the applicant believes that improvisation will be of benefit to either their personal or professional goals, as well as a brief explanation of financial need. Applications can also be submitted in the form of referrals from teachers or other professional associations. (All applicants must be fluent in English in order to fully benefit from this opportunity.)

Recipients may be asked for their permission to add their name and photo to our website in order to demonstrate viability of the scholarship. However, receipt of the scholarship is not contingent upon this.

DIVERSITY INITIATIVE 2020/2021

Santa Fe Improv will explore the possible components of a broad-based Diversity Initiative, reflecting the need to bring the art of improvisation and both its social and personal benefits to underserved populations in northern New Mexico. The first stage of this initiative will be the implementation of a Diversity Scholarship, effective immediately.
